If an accident you have gone through last landed you in the emergency room—or at least injured and needing care, if you are caught in a DUI scenario, things could quickly become complicated. One of the most important things a person should do after an accident and ensuring they are physically safe, is collect evidence.
Photos and videos
The first type of evidence we recommend securing is photos and videos. However, what happens if law enforcement arrives at the scene and immediately secure the area, making it difficult or impossible to access the place where the accident happened. Try taking photos immediately after the accident, without putting yourself or anyone else at risk.
Integrity of the legal procedure
Why would police secure the area? While they do not always, in certain cases they do to block off unauthorized individuals from accessing the area. It could be that someone died, or is in very serious condition. It could also be that the scene of the accident was damaged to the extent that they will need to fix it before drivers are given access because of the liability it poses.
If you find yourself in a situation involving a DUI or other criminal charges, remember that having an experienced attorney is absolutely key in these situations to get the best outcome.
