We are just 15 minutes from the Hamilton County Courthouse in Downtown Cincinnati.

Frequently Asked Questions About Meeting With Your Attorney For The First Time

Many of the people who come to our Cincinnati law office to meet with a lawyer are dealing with a legal issue for the first time. They have often never met with a lawyer before. That is okay! One of our promises to the people we serve is clear communication, and that begins with setting expectations about the first meeting with one of our attorneys. Here is an FAQ that will answer some of your questions:

Where Will The First Meeting Take Place?

Most initial consultations take place in our law office. You can come to our Hyde Park location or one of our two other convenient Ohio law offices. We also offer phone and video meetings. In some situations, like personal injury cases, we can do home or hospital visits.

What Do I Bring To The Meeting?

Our staff will let you know what to bring, if anything. Generally speaking, you will eventually be asked to share all legal, financial or business documentation related to your situation.

Can I Ask My Lawyer Questions During The Meeting?

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it. Ask your attorney about their experience handling cases like yours. Ask about how the law applies to your case, or potential outcomes to your case. We will be happy to provide the answers you need to have peace of mind.

How Long Will The Meeting Last?

30 minutes to an hour is common, but it will depend on the nature of your case. If you have a fairly straightforward car accident case, the meeting might be shorter. If you have a complex criminal case or you have a bankruptcy with a lot of financial issues, there may be more to discuss at the outset.

Will I Have To Pay Anything At The First Meeting?

The consultation is free. If you decide to retain our services, payment arrangements will depend on the nature of the case. Personal injury cases are handled on a contingency basis, so no payment is needed upfront. For a criminal defense matter or a bankruptcy, we may ask for a retainer fee, though it may not be required to be paid during the first meeting.
